PE, Sports and the School Sports Premium at Red Oak Primary School

Here at Red Oak Primary School, we are fortunate enough to be funded by the governments School Sports Premium Fund. The government grants premium money to be used in developing sports in UK schools. We take sports and PE very seriously at our school. Below is an outline of how we have been spending our sports premium grant:

  1. Travel costs for all school teams competing in tournaments and fixtures.
  2. Hiring Professional rugby coaches for our school rugby clubs.
  3. Multi Skill coaches for our Friday lunchtime club and Friday after school club.
  4. Resources used for competition and after school training (this year we have purchased a new football goal, a set of new rugby balls and a set of size 4 footballs to enhance the development of our school teams and after school clubs).
  5. New Red Oak team kits for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children.
  6. Staff PE and Sports training course costs.
  7. Our healthy schools Golden Mile initiative programme.

We aim to give all children the opportunity to participate in a wide range of competitive sports. So far this year we have competed in:

  1. Lowestoft Schools Year 6 Rugby Tournament
  2. Lowestoft Schools Year 5/6 Indoor Athletics Tournament
  3. Lowestoft Schools Year 4 Hockey Tournament
  4. Lowestoft Schools Year 5/6 Basketball Tournament
  5. Our Year 5 football team has played friendly fixtures against other schools.
  6. Our Year 4 hockey team has played friendly fixtures against other schools.
  7. Our Year 3 and 4 football teams have fixtures planned for this half term.
  8. Our KS1 football teams are taking part in an organised football tournament.
  9. Our Year 6 netball team is competing in a tournament at St Felix Prep School.
  10. Our Year 5 football team is competing in the Lowestoft Schools Championships.
  11. Our Year 5/6 basketball team is competing in another tournament against our academy partnership schools.

We will be competing in many more fixtures in the coming months (times and dates to be confirmed).

We have a strong Sports Partnership with Westwood Primary School and Grove Primary School (our fellow Active Learning Trust Academies) and we play regular fixtures and tournaments against each other. We also have a strong sports partnership with Meadow Primary School and play regular friendly fixtures against them.

If you would like any extra information about PE, Sports, competitions, fixtures, clubs and the spending of the School Sports Premium Fund, then please see Mr J Lee (PE coordinator) or Mr G Barnden (Teaching Assistant and Sports Coach).
