PE at Red Oak Primary School

Here at Red Oak Primary School we take PE and sports very seriously. Our children have two hours of PE a week and we also provide lots of extra-curricular lunchtime clubs and after school clubs to give our children more opportunities to be active and participate in competitive sport. We are a very active school and in 2015 we were awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Silver Sports Mark Award. This is a very prestigious sports award for schools and only five primary schools in the Lowestoft area have this level of award, to gain this award we had to promote competitive sports and provide a vast range of extra-curricular sports clubs for children at our school. All children at our school from KS1 up to KS2 are taught PE in accordance with the New Curriculum objectives and are tracked in their progress. We teach all of our children a vast range of gymnastics, dance and games. We are a very competitive school and we participate in the Lowestoft Sports Partnership tournaments as well as the Active Learning Trust Championships. We have a full time sports committee made up of Mr J F Lee (PE and Sports Coordinator), Mr G Barnden (PE and Sports Instructor) and Mrs D Marsden (Teaching Assistant). Our sports committee organises many after school clubs and lunchtime activities as well as organising the Active Learning Trust Championship tournaments for our fellow academy schools. Every year we hold a large whole school fun run, as well as having very competitive sports days, where our school houses battle it out to win the house cups. We have four sports houses at our school; Seb Coe House (Red), Jessica Ennis House (Green), Daley Thompson House (Yellow) and Kelly Holmes House (Blue), all of our houses are named after great British gold medallist Olympic athletes. We also have a school sports motto ‘Believe To Achieve’, we use this motto to promote aspiration and determination within our teams and pupils. Our sports motto is printed on to our school team kits and is proudly displayed around our school.
