What Is It?
The Families First Award is a national quality assurance process to measure how effectively an organisation operates in the UK. The process was developed by NAFIS in conjuction with Suffolk County Council and the Department for Education (DfE) to focus on the working practices of a whole organisation or service.
- Used as a quality improvement tool, the Families First Quality Award demonstrates how an organisation values families.
- More recent versions for use by Sure Start children's centres, childminders, early years foundation stage providers and schools have been developed in partnership with Suffolk County Council. Families First for schools is suitable for primary and secondary schools (academies, free schools, maintained and independant), special schools and pupil referral units.
- An organisation with a Families First Quality Award has demonstrated that it values families in its direc work with parents, children and young people, and relevant partners.
- A qualified Familes First assessor works with organisations to demonstrate competence against individual elements of the standards and suppoers the quality improvement process.
The standards for local authority, children's centres, schools and childminder agencies are designed to help keep families at the heart of their practice and help them to provide gold standard information.
Red Oak is very happy to be part of the scheme. As part of our accreditation process, we would like to invite any parents who are available between 2 and 3.10 next Tuesday (21st) to come along. There will be a lady there who would like to find out your views on the school, what we do well, what needs improvement. The focus is on how well we work with parents and families. Please let the school know, by telephone, or leave a message with the office, by Friday 17th October, if you are able to come.
