Assembly

Our work In lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3&4) our curriculum approach is to promote the development of inquisitive and independent learners who develop a natural fascination for the world around them and beyond.

This is achieved through a thematic ‘enquiry’ approach to the curriculum whereby each term the children study a particular topic.

During these themed activities children are given the opportunity to develop their skill, knowledge and understanding in Geography, History, Design & Technology and the Arts. Likewise they are encouraged to apply their reading, writing and numerical understanding across all areas of the curriculum.

Year 3/4 Work on Thomas Edison

Speaking and listening, reading, writing, spelling and numeracy skills are taught daily through Maths Makes Sense programme and Read, Write, Inc Literacy programme. In addition to this other areas of the curriculum are studied, we also teach some subjects as weekly single lessons. These include Physical Education, Modern Foreign Languages (French), Science, Music and Religious Education.

ICT skills are taught during weekly lessons, however, we encourage the children to apply these across the curriculum. They are given the oppotunity to use computers and tablets in a range of lessons.

We also regularly develop learning and understanding in Personal, Health & Social Education (PSHE) and are committed to developing the children’s social, moral, cultural and spiritual experiences through all areas of the curriculum and school life.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of lower key stage 2 further please don’t hesitate to arrange to speak to a member of staff.

Feel free to look at the document below and see what the children in lower KS2 will be covering this spring term.

Using Technology

Upper Key stage two is currently made up of 3 classes, 5LK taught by Mrs. Kemp, 5SW taught by M and 6AR taught by Mr. Rough. At the end of year six, pupils will transfer to secondary school.  We liaise closely with local secondary schools, to ensure that the transition from one stage of education to another runs as smoothly as possible.

The aims of the upper KS2 department are for pupils to enjoy learning and to be motivated to achieve the best they can both now and in the future. Our goal is to provide a learning environment which allows pupils to fully develop their skills, personal qualities and attitudes.

Year 5's Work on their favourite books

Our intention is to instil the essential learning skills in literacy, numeracy and reading in the mornings, and other curriculum areas in the afternoons by providing an exciting and enriching enquiry - based approach which encourages our pupils to become independent and curious life - long learners. Upper KS2 curriculum content aims to include all areas indicated in the National Curriculum, providing an educational foundation that ensures value and progression.

For more information on life in upper KS2, the curriculum, staff, daily routines, etc, please contact the school to make an appointment with Mr Rough, the upper KS2 coordinator. Pupils are assessed regularly in KS2 and this information is used to match the curriculum to their needs to ensure progression. The class teachers keep assessment records of progress which provides a picture of progress from when pupils arrive in our care to when they leave.  During the Summer term, Year 6 children are assessed using both teacher assessment and the National Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs).
